Our Terms and Conditions clearly state that “Firearms which are possessed, manufactured or modified in violation of local, state, and Federal laws may not be used in QSI classes.”
QSI instructors and Staff may inspect student’s guns prior to class to identify safe condition and operation. Believe it or not, we’ve had students show up to classes with guns that won’t shoot! During the course of these inspections and the presenting of the class, we are going to notice if a firearm has been modified into an illegal configuration, such as a short-barreled rifle, short-barreled shotgun, or other unlawful design. If we see it, we can’t pretend we didn’t see it.
We aren’t going to ask for, and don’t need or want to see, any paperwork from you. Bring you NFA stuff, it’s more than welcomed! Just make sure what you have isn’t illegal. If we have reason to believe a firearm is illegal, we can’t let it be on our range. And please – PLEASE, PLEASE don’t start talking about illegal stuff with us.
There’s a good reason for this. Under State and Federal law, the mere presence of an illegal firearm on the range could open up our Instructors, Staff, and even fellow students to criminal liability for things such as constructive possession and conspiracy. We have personally witnessed law enforcement – including ATF – “dropping in” on classes held by other instructors.
We don’t like gun laws any more than you do; it is our view that these restrictions are unreasonable, arbitrary, and unconstitutional. Unfortunately, those facts don’t remove criminal liability from anyone. Do yourself and everyone else a favor by not putting them at risk.
ETA: As of 2025, binary triggers will be illegal in Minnesota. We don’t agree with this unconstitutional law, but until it’s overturned, we can’t allow those in our classes.
